Summary:In Canada one of the most important means by which the government regulates business is the Combines Investigation Act. In this book a political scientist and an economist have collaborated to study the way this legislation has developed and has been administered. They have concentrated on the period between the establishment of the present administrative machinery in 1952 and the major revisions in the definition of offences under the Act in 1960. The authors are interested in description and analysis rather than a search for the 'right' policy. Nevertheless, certain recommendations do emerge from their study, which -- clearly presented and well documented -- will be of interest to both expert and general readers.
