Summary:ONE AFTERNOON in the Spring of 1936, Claude Thomas Bissell, twenty, honour graduate in English and History, filed with his classmates to the platform of Convocation Hall at the University of Toronto and there received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Chancellor. Twenty-two years and a few months later – on the evening of October 24th, 1958 – he was in Convocation Hall again, this time to make his pledge as President of the University. It is the purpose of this book to link these two moments in the life of Claude Bissell and to record his installation as the Eighth President.
