Gives a general overview of bank holding companies. Examines their history through 1961, reviews their competitive position and role in society. Ultimately concludes that group-banking will continue to grow in popularity due to its more profitable nature over independent banks, though there is little difference between multiple-branch banks and those associated through bank holding companies.
