| Notes: | The graffito preserved in this squeeze is written above the images of animals , possibly ibexes, in which case the graffito might well have been left on the occasion of a ritual ibex hunt. Such hunts are well documented in Sabaic and, divested of their original pantheistic associations, survived into the Monotheist Period (one such hunt being conducted during the reign of the Jewish or Judaizing Ḥimyarite king ʾAbīkarib ʾAsʿad, r. ca. 400-440 CE) and down to the 20th century in the Ḥaḍramawt region. |
