Dr. Pascale Hugon
Pascale, the PI of the TibSchol project, is group leader of the Tibetan Studies working group at the IKGA. Her research chiefly addresses historical and philosophical aspects of the scholarly traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Within the TibSchol project, her thematic research centers on the development of scholastic tools and methods in early scholastic works, with a focus on epistemological treatises.

Dr. Lobsang Yongdan
Lobsang is examining hermeneutic techniques in early scholastic commentaries. In particular, he is exploring literature on the Perfection of Wisdom, notably early Tibetan commentaries on the Ornament of Realization. He is collecting materials for thematic analyses, as well as data relevant to the reconstruction of scholastic networks.

Dr. Jonathan Samuels
Jonathan is studying the modes of argumentation at play in scholastic works, and contrasting the features of scholastic literature with alternative systems attested in the literature of the same period. In addition to undertaking thematic studies based on selected texts, he is collecting data from works of the Middle Way school.

Dr. Zhouyang Ma
Zhouyang is exploring early personal and intellectual networks within Tibetan scholasticism, including their extension tied to the spread of Buddhism in the Tangut Empire. He is also using intertextual references to reconstruct the intellectual profiles of key early Tibetan scholars.

Tsering Drongshar, BA, bKa’ bcu pa, Rigs gnas rabs ’byams pa
Tsering is contributing to the exploration of the scholastic landscape by charting the corpus and surveying early works of various textual traditions. He is gathering bibliographical information on early scholastics and reviewing, in particular, secondary literature in modern Tibetan.

Dr. Rachael Griffiths
Rachael was in charge of the digital humanities aspects of the project from August 2021 to October 2023. She successfully trained a Handwritten Text Recognition (HTR) model using the platform Transkribus, and contributed to data modelling of the prosopographical database and to setting up the TEI/XML editing environment for text excerpts. Since October 2022, she has additionally been investigating the scope of the early scholastic corpus beyond the published and extant works and the diffusion of Tibetan scholastic treatises within scholastic networks.

Dr. Serena Biondo
Serena was active in the project from August 2021 to October 2022. She carried out research on the scholastic landscape with a focus on the reconstruction of scholastic networks. In order to map the authors of scholastic works in the corpus being investigated, she explored historical sources and secondary literature, and engaged in a systematic investigation of the colophons of early scholastic works.

Technical Expertise
Saranya Balasubramanian, MSc
Saranya is TibSchol’s web developer of the APIS (Austrian Prosopographical Information System) platform, a humanities orientated entity database created at the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage (ACDH-CH). She is responsible for extending the APIS data model for TibSchol, and importing data on works and authors from Excel workbooks into the database. She will also be adding features to the APIS web interface for curating and visualizing the TibSchol data.

Stefan Resch, BA
Stefan joined the TibSchol team from June 2022 to December 2022 as a developer of the APIS platform. Stefan's main task was to increase the flexibility of the APIS platform in regard to the underlying data model and adapt it more closely towards the arising needs within the TibSchol project.
