Entangled Charters of Eurasia

The Creation of Official Writing in Comparison and Exchange ca. 1100-1400

The aim of this workshop is to bring together specialists on various aspects of the production of state-sponsored writing (documents, but also inscriptions or manuscripts) and the edition and analysis of such texts for the wide area between the Eastern Mediterranean and East Asia, whose dynamics affected the developments in late medieval Anatolia. Various forms of writing shall be compared and explored in their entanglements, based on the mobility of documents, manuscripts and other objects, envoys, scribes, knowledge and practices, beyond political, linguistic, religious and disciplinary boundaries.
