Liam Dolan appointed to represent Her Majesty The Queen
GMI Senior Group Leader Professor Liam Dolan has been appointed by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, as the Queen’s Trustee at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The appointment recognises his contributions during his tenure on the Kew Board and reflects the Queen’s interest in the science of biodiversity and conservation.
“I am very happy to represent Her Majesty’s interests on the Kew Board. The appointment of a scientist to this position for the first time in the 262-year history of the institution is a recognition of the role for fundamental, discovery science in Kew’s mission to tackle the global biodiversity crisis,” says Professor Dolan.
The Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew (RBG Kew), a World Heritage Site, were founded in 1840. The RBG Kew herbarium houses “the largest and most diverse botanical and mycological collections in the world”, according to their website. These collections catalogue over 8.5 million items and represent around 95% of vascular plant genera and 60% of fungal genera.
