Genetic and Environmental Factors Influencing Methylation Variation
DNA methylation varies enormously within natural lines of Arabidopsis thaliana, and is correlated with ancestry, climate, and transponson load, among other things. However, its practical relevance for natural populations remains unclear. In this project we use crosses and field experiments to experimentally disentangle these correlations and identify the genetic and environmental factors influencing methylation variation.
Research interests
I am an evolutionary biologist with a particular interest in the genetics of quantitative traits.
My analytical focus is on writing robust, reproducible code, and on designing experiments that make sure you don’t run into trouble in the first place. Although trained as a zoologist, I mostly work on plants because they don’t bite or run away, you can do what you like to them, and because they’re delicious.
