GMI is recruiting a group leader

The Gregor Mendel Institute (GMI), an institute of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, continues to recruit Group Leaders. We are primarily targeting junior scientists (i.e., Junior Group Leader or Assistant Professor), although exceptional applications at a more senior level will be considered. We welcome all applications focusing on basic research with relevance to plant biology, broadly interpreted, although we are particularly interested in building strength in computational and genome-enabled biology. Our main criterion is scientific excellence and we favor research with potential for high impact. Candidates are expected to develop an independent research program at the very highest level. The GMI offers internationally competitive packages, including a substantial yearly research budget and access to state-of-the-art facilities. The initial contract will be for five years (with a three-year extension subject to review).

The GMI is part of the Vienna Biocenter, a research cluster with over 1,700 researchers from over 40 countries, located close to the center of Vienna, and 20 minutes from the airport. The working language is English, and the environment is family-friendly, with subsidized on-campus child-care facilities. The GMI is core-funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences and also receives funding from numerous national and international agencies.

Please send your application, including a curriculum vitae, a brief description of your proposed research (no more than four pages), and contact details for at least three references to Ms. Mariola Glawischnig (recruitment(at)gmi.oeaw.ac.at).

Informal inquiries can be directed to the Scientific Director, Dr. Magnus Nordborg (magnus.nordborg(at)gmi.oeaw.ac.at), or to any other GMI group leader.

Review of applications for the present search will begin Feb 1, 2017 and will continue until the position is filled.
