Rethinking Academia - Funding scientific research
How fair is the current systems of research funding? Is it effective to avoid discrimination towards minorities in science? Does it do justice to the balance between basic and applied research? And is it worth the effort for the individual scientists to submit detailed projects for as many calls as possible? Are there more efficient alternatives? How can truly innovative projects be funded while requesting detailed predictions of the outcomes as well of the risks that they entail?
These and other questions will be discussed at the event "Rethinking Academia - Funding scientific research: how to foster knowledge and innovation fairly and efficiently?". The organisers, supported by the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Communication of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna and other research institutions, invite you to participate in an open discussion on the future of research funding, after keynote lectures by experts such as Gregor Weihs, Bevin Ashley Zauderer, Tommaso Calarco, Costantino Budroni and Miguel Navascues. The workshop series "Rethinking Academia" has been launched in April 2019.
