Her two-year term will start in September 2021. She becomes a member of the CMS management and represents the Collaboration and its institutions in all bodies of the experiment. The Collaboration Board makes all important decisions. The Chair is responsible for preparing them and bringing them forward for discussion. She thus holds a key role, which requires insight into all scientific and technical matters of the experiment as well as diplomatic skills in an international environment.
Claudia-Elisabeth Wulz studied physics at TU Wien and started her career as a summer student at CERN. Later she participated in the discovery of the W and Z particles as well as the Higgs boson. She also lectures on particle and astroparticle physics.
The CMS group of the Institute of High Energy Physics (HEPHY) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) is a founding member of the experiment, for which it designed and built essential components. It participates in the data analysis for the search for new physics phenomena.
