Bronze Age in transformation

This summer an Austro-Israeli group of archaeologists started excavations on Tel Lachisch, a key-site of the southern Levant during the Bronze and Iron Ages. Finds included an impressive building from the Late Bronze Age.

Mit äußerster Sorgfalt wurden die Funde freigelegt: Ein Mitarbeiter reinigt den Unterkiefer einer Ziege bzw. eines Schafes.

Die Relikte einer Zerstörung: In den spätbronzezeitlichen Gebäuden fanden sich zahlreiche zerstörte Keramikgefäße.

Lachisch war während der Spätbronzezeit eines der internationalen Zentren der Südlevante, wie unter anderem die importierte Keramik aus Zypern zeigt.

ÖAW-Forscherin Lyndelle Webster beim Entnehmen von stratigraphischen Proben, die anschließend mit mikroarchäologischen Methoden untersucht werden.

Bei den Grabungen wurde ein massives spätbronzezeitliches Gebäude freigelegt.
