10th EUGEO Congress 2025

Geographies of a Changing Europe

Monday – Thursday, 8 – 11 September 2025, Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna

The call for sessions for the upcoming EUGEO 2025 is now open. The deadline for the submission of proposed sessions is 30 September 2024.

The theme for the 2025 EUGEO congress is ‘Geographies of a Changing Europe’ and we invite sessions on this theme (and beyond) from all areas of the discipline. The congress will take place at the Austrian Academy of Sciences right in the historical city centre of Vienna from Monday 8 September to Thursday 11 September 2025. It will include a series of keynotes, parallel sessions, and city walks as well as networking and social events throughout the four-day period. Some highlights include a welcome reception on Monday. Vienna is easily accessible and thus an ideal location to bring together geographers from across Europe. The Academy Campus in the historical city centre of Vienna offers an environment with a rich cultural heritage. Together with the surrounding modern city and urban region of Vienna in Central Europe, it offers a geographical kaleidoscope of a changing Europe.

The congress is organised by the Institute for Urban and Regional Research of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The Scientific and Organisational Committees, chaired by Dr Robert Musil, act in liaison with the Austrian Geographical Society (ÖGG) and the Geographical Institutes at Austrian Universities. The theme of ‘Geographies of a Changing Europe’ accounts for the transformation of both the disciplinary development and the substantial questions of geography in Europe. We invite session proposals reflective of the overarching theme with a view to attracting a wide variety of geographers with a range of interest and expertise representative of the diversity of geography. This includes sessions that deal with theoretical-conceptual perspectives, methodological and empirical experiences, and transdisciplinary engagement in all subdisciplines of human and physical geography, including cartography and GIS. After the proposed sessions have been confirmed, the Call for Papers opens – papers should be directed to particular sessions, if suitable.
