Since the mid-2010s, Tibetan origin stories and genealogies have been intently studied at the IKGA. Matters of interest include the history of Tibetan nationalist mythology, clan genealogies and ethnic origin stories. A wide variety of perspectives has been brought to bear on these issues, including philological, historical and ethnographic methodologies. This research, performed under the projects “Visions of Community” (2011–2019) and the ongoing project “Buddhist Narratives and ‘Tibetan’ Ethnogenesis” (since 2021), has been made possible by the support of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).
