NanoSPD6 – Metz, Frankreich

From June 29th to July 4th the 6th international congress on nano Severe Plastic Deformation (NanoSPD6) took place this time in Metz, France, where about 400 researchers from 5 different continents met to share their knowledge and latest results in that field. Located in lovely Lorraine at the Mosel River and close to the German border, the historic city offered a fantastic location for both, scientific and leisure activities. The Erich-Schmid-Insitute (ÖAW) and the Department Materials Physics (MUL) were represented by 9 researchers around Prof. R. Pippan, who gave a plenary lecture on “Crack growth in SPD materials”.

Two invited talks by Dr. A. Hohenwarter and Assoc.-Prof. D. Kiener as well as 5 further contributions completed the successful participation of the Leoben group. Besides outstanding lunches, wonderful side activities (an evening concert in the Arsenal, a tour through Hackenberg underground side at the Magniot Line or an interesting tour visiting the historical sides within Metz) as well as a fantastic conference dinner in an old abbey church close to the Mosel (Pont a Mousson), a lot of time for scientific discussions remained, where hopefully a lot of upcoming and fruitful collaborations were arisen.
