… is a sociolinguist subscribing to a radical (operative) constructivist view of science and mainly interested in history, philosophy and sociology of linguistics and its production of knowledge. At the head of the research area Scientific-Historical and Scientific-Theoretical Reflection of Linguistic Research on the German Language in Austria he is part of the ACDH-CH research unit Linguistics and teaches at the Department of German Studies of the University of Vienna.
He conducted the project Austrian Dialect Cartography 1924–1956. Digitization, Contextualiuation, Visualization and is co-opted to the project WBÖ – Dictionary of Bavarian Dialects in Austria and the Special Research Programme German in Austria. Variation – Contact – Perception (FWF F060).
