Irene Nawrocka is a senior researcher at the ACDH-CH and part of the research unit DH Research&Infrastructure.

She pursued Comparative Literature, Scandinavian and German Studies and received her PhD in Vienna in 1999. From 1999 to 2004, she was a researcher at the German Literature Archive (DLA) in Marbach am Neckar (Germany), and in 2004 she was employed in the framework of a project at the Commission for Historical Press Documentation at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. From 2004 to 2008, she worked as a publishing house editor.

She worked as an editor at the Austrian Biographical Dictionary (ÖBL) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 2009 to 2023, and was head of the projects "Registration of the names of Austrians who emigrated to Sweden from 1933/34 to 1945" from 2011 to 2012 and Biography and Autobiography of Persecution, Resistance and Exile: Review and Processing of a Collection of Unpublished Documents of Austrian Exiles from 2018 to 2019.

Her main research interests are biography and personal history, history of publishing, exile studies, publishing houses in exile, and Austrian refugees from National Socialism in Sweden. She is a member of the scientific advisory board of the Austrian Society for Exile Studies (öge) and board member of the Austrian-Swedish Society.
