The project Text-technological Methods for the Analysis of Austrian Baroque Literature (OeNB-Project No. 14738) was funded by the Anniversary Fund of the Austrian National Bank (OeNB) and links Baroque Literature with state-of-the-art ICT methodology.
On the basis of an electronic corpus of selected Austrian texts from the Baroque period that have been ascribed to the preacher and writer Abraham a Sancta Clara (1644-1709), the project set out to create a feature index that allows the systematic identification of patternlike regularities on both the lexical and syntactic level of these historical texts. Employing a mixed approach of quantitative and qualitative methods, the interdisciplinary project aimed to initiate new developments in current ICT methods as well as generating reliable insights into specific features of the texts analysed. The text technological part of the project also laid the groundwork for the creation of a best practice catalogue for a so far largely unexplored sector of contemporary humanities research.
The texts processed and investigated in the course of the project are part of the Austrian Baroque Corpus. Upon project closure, the resources were made available online for non-commercial research purposes.
