BE OPEN - Science and Society Festival

In the fall 2018, the Austrian Science Fund FWF celebrates its 50 year anniversary with the BE OPEN Science and Society Festival.

In the spirit of opening up science to the public, the FWF's festival shows fundamental research to a broad audience. The ACDH is excited to be part of this event and will contribute to two of the pop up pavilions in which the visitors will experience state of the art research first hand.

In the language research pavilion (Sprachforschung), we are supporting our colleagues from the German in Austria research department (DiÖ). Visitors are invited to explore the German language in Austria, how it is being used and perceived by its speakers as well as how it has been influenced by other languages. There are various hands-on activities which allow participants to test their knowledge, share their perception of and join research concerning the German language in Austria. Visitors are welcome to ask questions and engage in discussions with our researchers.

In the heritage science pavilion (Kulturerbe), the ACDH cooperates with our colleagues from ÖAW-BASIS and the IKM in the context of the Heritage Science Austria platform. We will showcase digital humanities applications working with digital representations of cultural heritage such as maps and 3D Models. Additionally, we will present the ACDH’s repository ARCHE preserving these digital artifacts, and making them available to the general public long term.

Our team members look forward to meeting you at the BE OPEN Festival!
