Agnes Kim

… is an Academy Scientist at the research unit Linguistics of the ACDH-CH. There, she works as a lexicographer for the Dictionary of Bavarian Dialects in Austria (Wörterbuch der bairischen Mundarten in Österreich, WBÖ) and is involved in the creation of LAPIS – Linguae austriacae: A Platform and Information System on language(s) in Austria. Additionally, she leads the project Vienna – different and multi.lingual: A sociolinguistic survey of language compentencies, usage and attitudes of people living in Vienna. As a former team member of the SFB German in Austria she was also involved in the project Aspects of (Multi-)Lingualism in Austria: Competence – Usage – Attitudes.

Agnes Kim studied Slavonic Studies (Czech) and German Studies at the University of Vienna with a focus on linguistics in both subjects and received her doctoral degree in Slavonic Studies in 2022. Her dissertation dealt with the representation of the ‘Slavic’ in dictionaries of ‘Viennese’. It was thematically embedded into her project work within the SFB German in Austria. Variation – Contact –Perception  (Project Part 06 German and the Slavic languages in Austria: Aspects of language contact), which she has been involved in since 2016. From August 2023 to April 2024, she held a Post-DocTrack fellowship of the Austrian Academy of Sciences for the publication of her dissertation results. Since February 2024 she is University Assistant (Post doc) at the Department of Slavonic Studies of the University of Vienna. Besides her research, she teaches at the University of Vienna.

Agnes Kim’s research interests include (the history of) Slavic-German multilingualism and language contact in Austria, contrastive Slavic and German linguistics, corpus linguistics, and digital (meta-)lexicography.
