It shapes political, economic and scientific debates as well as individual practices and processes of structural change. The term has a generally positive connotation - it is, however, understood in very different ways, and is sometimes instrumentalised. The contributions in this volume attempt to provide clarity and question the topic of sustainability from a variety of sociological perspectives: What social dynamics are associated with sustainability and what discourses?
