Der Aufsatz untersucht die Funktionen der Untoten- und Zombie-Stimmen in Elfriede Jelineks Theatertext ›Babel‹. In diskursanalytischer Perspektive wird das Stück sowohl vor dem Hintergrund des Zombie-Booms im 20. Jahrhundert als auch im Kontext der medialen Verlautbarungssprache des zweiten Irakkriegs betrachtet. Hier lässt sich die These aufstellen, dass in der Rede der lebenden Toten die Funktionsmechanismen von Krieg und Religion in unserer vom Kapital durchdrungenen Welt freigelegt werden.

The essay analyses the functions of the Undeath- and Zombie-voices in Elfriede Jelineks play ›Babel‹. The text will be examined in discourseanalytical perspective against the backround of the Zombie-Boom in the 20th century as well as in the context of the medial speech of the 2nd War on Iraq. It will be made the case, that the speech of the living death exposes the mechanism of war and religion in a world steeped in capital.
