TÜV AUSTRIA Science Award 2016 for Walter Ochensberger

Dr. Walter Ochensberger was awarded the TÜV AUSTRIA Science Award 2016 in the category for universities for his thesis, “Characterization of fatigue crack growth with the configurational force concept”.

Walter’s thesis deals with the development of a new numerical method for characterizing the fatigue crack growth rate in elastoplastic materials. The new method is especially applicable for small fatigue cracks and in the regime of low-cycle fatigue, where the conventional stress-intensity range (ΔK-) concept is not applicable. The work was performed in a strategic COMET K2 project under the guidance of Prof. Kolednik.
