The authors include a detailed overview of metallic glasses (MGs) in terms of process conditions, formability parameters, flow kinetics, nano and microstructure, and post-property characterization. Important concepts such as length-scale effects, thermoplastic forming techniques and intrinsic property changes are elaborated. Furthermore, a comprehensive collection of recent and potential applications of MGs, including energy, biomedical, micro-optics, heat conversion, resonators etc., are presented.

The first and the corresponding author of this manuscript, Dr. Baran Sarac, has been working on the thermoplastic forming of different MG types at different scales since the beginning of his research career. He has authored a book and many publications in the fields of synthesis, thermal forming techniques, characterization, and biomedical and energy applications of metallic glasses and other advanced metallic alloys in prestigious peer-reviewed journals. Prof. Jürgen Eckert (Director of Erich Schmid Institute of Materials Science) has coauthored more than 1400 scientific papers in different subjects, including materials physics, metastable materials, micro/nanostructured alloys, structure and property correlations of advanced materials, and thermal forming techniques of different MG systems.
