ECI: Nanomechanical Testing in Materials Research and Development V

The conference ECI: Nanomechanical Testing in Materials Research and Development V was held in Albufeira, Portugal, in October. Among the international participants were also 6 from the Erich Schmid Institute.

Dr. Verena Maier was invited for a lecture about “Thermally activated processes in materials probed by nanoindetation – challenges, solutions and insights”, in which she not only pointed out how important it is to ensure to test the material and not your instrument (or in some cases your glue), and also showed new results for high temperature indentation. Another three contributed talks were given by Prof. Daniel Kiener (“How residual stresses affect the fracture properties of layered thin films”), DI Marlene Kapp (“Anisotropy of ultrafine-lamellar and nanolamellar pearlitic structures revealed by in-situ micro compression testing”) and DI Alexander Leitner (“A comprehensive study on the deformation behavior of ultra-fine grained and ultra-fine porous Au at elevated temperatures”). Moreover, Dr Bernhard Völker and DI Lisa Krämer gave poster presentations and achieved prices for the most funniest poster presentation (Dr. Bernhard Völker) and the 2nd best poster preview (DI Lisa Krämer).
