tit. Prof. Dr. Christine Harrauer (1945–2023)

The OeAI mourns the death of its colleague Christine Harrauer

We mourn the death of our former colleague tit. Prof. Dr. Christine Harrauer (1945-2023). In addition to teaching at the Department of Classics, Medieval and Modern Latin at the University of Vienna, she was also head of the university departmental library and the library of the Austrian Academy of Sciences from 1993 to 2012. Harrauer was deputy chairman of the Commission for Ancient Literature and Latin Tradition (now OeAI) and also first female commission member (1988–2012). She was also co-editor of the »Wiener Studien« and »Wiener Studien Beihefte«, the »Wiener Humanistische Blätter« and editor of the »Edition Woldan«. A database on the newly discovered myths of the Renaissance and early modern period went live shortly before her death. Her new edition of the »Lexikon der Griechischen und Römischen Mythologie«, the cooperation with Walter Leitsch concerning the book »Moscovia« by Sigmund von Herberstein as well as other projects on early modern topics show her broad research interests besides classical philology and ancient history of religion. We will cherish her memory.
