The study examines the specific aesthetics of the ,late’ operetta (approximately 1905 to 1930), specifically the characteristic paradoxical interweaving of sentimental kitsch and ironic parody that provides this genre with a distinctive poetic tension. The article concentrates on the ›Dream Waltz‹ by Oscar Straus (1907), also taking into account several adjacent operettas namely by Oscar Straus and Ralph Benatzky. 

Der Beitrag untersucht die spezifische Ästhetik der ,späten‘ Operette (ca. 1905 bis 1930), konkret die für sie charakteristische paradoxe Verquickung von rührseligem Kitsch und ironischer Persiflage, die dieses Genre unter eine unverwechselbare poetische Spannung setzt. Im Zentrum steht eine Analyse des ›Walzertraum‹ von Oscar Straus (1907), flankiert von Seitenblicken auf weitere Stücke vor allem von Oscar Straus und Ralph Benatzky.
