Der Erstdruck von E.T.A. Hoffmanns sogenanntem ›Rat Krespel‹ (1817) unterscheidet sich sowohl strukturell als auch stofflich vom späteren Wiederabdruck in den ›Serapions-Brüdern‹ (1819), wir haben es mit zwei eigenständigen Texten zu tun. Sie differieren in ihrer jeweiligen poetischen Aussagekraft. Die hier vorgelegte Interpretation des Erstdrucks liest diesen als ein poetologisches Programm, in welchem das Wesen der literarischen Mitteilung (als Wechselwirkung von Stoff/Form) eigens reflektiert wird.

The first print of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s so-called ›Rat Krespel‹ (1817) differs in its formal structure as well as in the plot from the later reprint in the ›Serapions-Brüder‹ (1819), we are dealing here with two distinct texts that differ in their respective poetic meanings. This article offers an interpretation of the first print, in which the nature of the interaction between plot and form is explored and communicated.
