Dissipative many-body quantum systems
When a complex quantum system is coupled to the outside world there are inevitably losses which occur. My research develops novel numerical techniques to understand the behaviour of these many-body, non‐Markovian quantum systems. This includes such diverse platforms as organic molecules in microcavities, quantum dots in semiconductor heterostructures and optomechanical systems. In my ESQ project I focus on situations where it is possible to realise dissipative analogues of phase transitions. This can result in sudden changes in behaviour for only a small change in the relevant system parameter.
