His experimental work concerns a nanostructured austenitic stainless steel relevant for structural reactor components, before and after exposure to particle irradiation. The thesis gives insight in the change of mechanical response in the micron and sub-micron regime, which is vital for further investigation of the onset of material failure. The work was done in cooperation with the Department of Nuclear Materials at the University of California, Berkeley.
