Modern physical surface analysis

The lecture gives an introduction in selected physical methods of surface analysis.

The corresponding basic physical principles, the development of the methods, and the current state-of-the art of their application will be covered. In this lecture the emphasis is not placed on surface science basics but rather on modern analytical techniques and their application in materials science. Not only metallic systems, but also ceramics and thin layers are covered. Main focus techniques covered in the lecture: X-ray diffraction and its application for surface analysis, besides electron microspical and several spectroscopical techniques.
