ÖBL Online Edition from 1815

The online edition of the ÖBL was founded in 2004 with the aim of making the biographies of the print edition also available online and thus accessible to a wider range of users.

In 2011 the project was reassessed and repositioned: with the “Österreichisches Biographisches Lexikon ab 1815 (2. überarbeitete Auflage)”, the following changes were made

a) selective additions and revisions to the print version

b) for the first time, persons who died after 1950 (and thus extend beyond the reporting period of the print edition) were also included.

All published biographies are available open access via the ÖAW publishing house's repository.
