… is a sociolinguist subscribing to a radical (operative) constructivist view of science and mainly interested in history, philosophy and sociology of linguistics and its production of knowledge. At the head of the project History and Philosophy of Linguistic Research on the German Language in Austria he is part of the ACDH-CH research unit Linguistics and teaches at the Department of German Studies of the University of Vienna.
He conducted the project Austrian Dialect Cartography 1924–1956. Digitization, Contextualiuation, Visualization and is co-opted to the project WBÖ – Dictionary of Bavarian Dialects in Austria and the Special Research Programme German in Austria. Variation – Contact – Perception (FWF F060).
